Why do I pray for my future husband?
Rather than falling in love with the wrong person, because, truthfully, I am kind of scared of falling in love, no matter how thrilling It feels. I am scared if the fact I have spent my time, my energy, my money, my mind on this one guy, who might not be my future husband.
Of course, you can't always expect a perfect ending, but you can at least be careful with whom you invest your time and attention. You're not alone, it's such a temptation for me for not holding back my feeling and wait for God's instruction. If you are currently in a stage of getting to know each other, don't repeat my mistake. Please be sure of his intention! (I will further discuss this topic later on my next post titled; "Dear boys.. Be a gentleman!")
I started pray intensely (again, after temporary hiatus) for my future husband right on my 21st birthday, just last year. So, here are reasons why!
Dear future husband, I am praying for you because..
- I want to make you feel special
- I have already loved you even before we met! even though we haven't met yet, the more often I talk to God about you, the more I want to appreciate and respect you! I want to love like Jesus does, as we are "..and the two will become one flesh, so they are no longer two, but one flesh" (Mark 10:8)
- No matter how dumb the decisions I may have made in my past, but the only thing, the far most precious thing my past didn't have is prayers for you.
- I am not the only one struggling with life, I believe you are fighting too..
- Life is all about ups and downs, no matter what problems you are facing right now, I pray that God will keep guiding and leading you to stay on the right track. You must be really tired and I am making sure to deliver my prayers to God so that He will help to make it easier for you to bear. "Again I say to you, if you two are agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven" (Matthew 18:19)
- Praying for future spouse is not all about listing down all criteria about what kind of spouse you expect to have, or asking God to show you the way to meet him/her, it's about praying in a progress. I will share some prayer examples you can try on my next post! (check : "Journaling for my future husband")
- I am preparing myself
- As I am praying for you right now, I realized I can't just ask God so that you will grow to be a man full of Godly character and personality. I see it rather as a reminder for me to check on myself, so that I can be a wife I need to be.
- To create a prayer habit after marriage
- Praying for a future husband requires a lot of commitment. I still have to pray for you, the "still anonymous" even when I'm currently talking to other guys, I don't know when I will get married or whether God even calls me to get married.
- This will be a habit that later when I'm married, we still have the commitment to pray for our child(ren), and there will be another story after marriage that will require a lot of persistence prayers. "Pray continually" (1 Thessalonians 5:17)
- A form of trusting God
- Only God knows what's best for us, so when we pray, He knows we trust Him and we believe He will provide the best answer for us. Praying for your future husband also helps you to stay on the right path, for example, to keep your purity (or even if you are not, worry not, you are now made new! God died on the cross to pay for your sins! I promise to talk about "sexual sin" later on my next post)
- Simply because it is the greatest gift I can give to you!
Then, What if I was called not to get married? There is never a waste when you pray. You didn't know your future husband yet, so, technically, you are praying for all "men" in the world! Such a blessing! You are one of the reasons behind a couple's great marriage! anyway, we are called to be the bride of God, aren't we? 😉
Believe that God has far greater plans for those who believe in Him.
Much love,
Selina
